Where art frees the mind
At The Field Studio, we believe creativity is more than artistic expression; it is a way of remembering, imagining, and rebuilding our world.
Brought to you by The Harvest Africa Foundation, our workshops create immersive spaces where young people and adults reconnect with themselves, their communities, and their cultural heritage through storytelling, writing, and visual art. It also provides space to critically examine social structures underlying the political, cultural, and environmental dilemmas affecting different spheres of society.
Rooted in our commitment to arts-based education and social transformation, each workshop invites participants to explore identity, nurture creativity, and develop the confidence to share their stories in ways that inspire change.
Our Process
I
Immerse
Participants enter the world of African narrative traditions, oral history, rhythm, community memory, and intergenerational knowledge, before a single word is written..
II
Create
Through guided exercises in writing, drama, and visual art, participants translate lived experience, identity, and emotion into tangible creative work, with no prior experience required.
III
Reflect
Group discussion, peer exchange, and personal reflection help each participant understand storytelling as resistance, healing, and cultural continuity, not just craft..
What we offer
A journey through Pan-African storytelling traditions for young artists. As global influences reshape how stories are told, this workshop empowers participants to revive and celebrate indigenous narratives, drawing from memory, rhythm, community, and lived experience. Participants cultivate their own voice and discover storytelling, in all its forms, as a powerful force for cultural preservation, identity, and resistance.

Performance workshop
Body, Voice & Stage
Drama is storytelling
Drama is storytelling in its most immediate form. The body as text, the voice as archive. This workshop draws from African performance traditions, griot practice, and community theatre to explore how identity, history, and emotion can be enacted rather than written.
Participants work through movement, improvisation, and scripted scenes to discover how the stage can hold what daily life sometimes cannot. No performance background required, only a willingness to show up and be seen.
-
Use gesture, stillness, and space to tell stories the voice alone cannot carry.
-
Draw from griot and oral storytelling forms to find the power and rhythm of the spoken word.
-
Build scenes from lived experience, community memory, and collective imagination.
Adult workshop
Memory & Continuity
Designed for adults ready to pause from everyday demands and return to what has been inherited. This workshop invites participants on a reflective journey through Pan-African storytelling, reconnecting with memory, identity, and lived experience through African narrative traditions.
Guided by oral history, rhythm, and intergenerational knowledge, participants revisit indigenous storytelling not as nostalgia but as an intellectual and cultural practice. Storytelling here is a tool for reflection, healing, and preserving what must not be lost.

Our workshops run in small, intentional groups so that each participant receives the space they need to go deep. Spaces are limited and filled on a first-come basis. If you are unsure which workshop is right for you, reach out before signing up.
The Harvest Africa Foundation is committed to making these workshops accessible across backgrounds and contexts. Bursaries and subsidised places are available. No one should be turned away for financial reasons.
